Worthwhile Book to Screen Adaptations πŸŽžπŸ“½πŸ“š

A few of my favourites ...

Book to screen adaptations are quite difficult to get right and sometimes leave a lot of people disappointed so these are ones that i can promise wont leave you wanting more. They are also just good plots and storylines in general so when bought to screen it only enhances the books contents. So give them a go...

Love Rosie adapted from 'Where Rainbows end' by Cecilia AhernπŸ©·πŸ™

Available on Disney +

This is one of my favourite romcoms ever and arguably i prefer the film to the book which is quite uncommon as films usually lack detail. But this film is perfection, the aesthetic and the way its shot in kind of a home movie, documentary style I just LOVE it!!!! Sam Claflin and Lily Collins are perfection as well and there onscreen chemistry is great as they perfectly establish friends to lovers and true soulmates. My favorite scenes are definitely Rosie's speech at Alex's wedding, Rosie renovating her hotel and opening it and the scene between Alex and Rosie messaging in the computer lab. What i like about this film is that the comedy of the romcom is actually good, i actually laugh out loud when i watch it. Its just such a warm and uplifting story and makes me feel jolly when i watch it. Very nostalgic.

The Notebook adapted from the novel by Nicholas Sparks πŸ““πŸ¦πŸ›Ά

OMG!!! I am such a notebook fan even though people accuse it of being overrated, its really not at all. Once again i would argue i prefer the film to the book. The book didn't get across how in love Allie and Noah were like the film. Because Rachel Mcadams and Ryan Gosling completely sold the concept of the frustration they felt towards eachother but it was overruled by their pure obsession and love. Their love story is just so beautiful, and although its awful that Allie was fated to forget their love story, the fact that their love is the only thing that brings her memories back is just so beautiful. Also the fact Noah takes the time to read it to her everyday displays just how dedicated he is. My favourite scenes are obviously the boat and the rain scene, i love all of the clips at the beginning when they are falling in love. The bird scene is sooooo cute and also when she comes back to him at the end with all her luggage. Its just beautiful and makes me quite emotional. To be honest i am a fan of any Nicholas Spark's book to screen adaptations. There are sooo many good ones.

Daisy Jones and the Six adapted from the novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid 🎸✨🎹🎀

Available on Amazon Prime

This one i read the book first and fell in love with the universe. And the series with the absolutely amazing soundtrack only enhanced my love of it. The book is structured like interviews the whole way through and i found this quite enjoyable when i was reading it. Visually, its better to watch the series as it creates the atmosphere and aura of this story so well. When reading the book i found it hard to comprehend the music and the songs, but the fact for this series they all learnt to play instruments and had a band camp and actually produced the album that i currently have the vinyl off is 10/10! I love the songs that are part of the series, they are actually incredible. So yes, i love this series, it completely does the book justice and i loved seeing this world bought to life. Looking forward to future Taylor Jenkins Reid screen adaptations.

Me Before You adapted from the novel by Jojo MoyesπŸ’›πŸ–€πŸ

Now i know this film and book is depressing AF. But in terms of book to screen adaptations its a pretty good one. I just realised 3 of these adaptations include Sam Claflin and i was gonna include the hunger games as well. He's an unmatched male lead in rom coms/book adaptations. If he is staring you can count on the adaptation being good. But Emilia Clarke is also just as brilliant in this. I loved the costumes and the quirky outfits being bought to life and also their onscreen dynamic is once again brilliant as its not a typical love story. Also Will Trainor isn't always a likeable character but Sam allows you to feel his pain and sorrow while still giving him that dry sometimes dislikable humor. What's interesting is they only bothered to adapt the first novel, but there are two more that are equally as good and i would love to see the character development of Louisa on screen. So yes this one is worth a watch as the depression of the books is even more soul destroying in film.

Lessons in Chemistry adapted from the novel by Bonnie Garmus πŸΆπŸŽ’πŸ§«πŸ§ͺπŸ₯Ό

Available on Apple TV

I meant to include this in my top four books ever but i forget about it so it's getting its moment now instead. I love this book and these characters. I also love the era and looking into the world of daytime television. I once again read the book first and was completely obsessed with it. LOVE LOVE LOVE. Its not all sunshine and rainbows but the story itself is amazing and i love how it explores the gender gap in the workplace but also how even woman who are career focused can also find it in there hearts to be mothers and care. We don't have to choose entirely. The tragedy of Calvin Evans does put a dampener on the storyline but its also such good fuel for Elizabeth to achieve, also the links to his family later discovered make it so impactful. The onscreen adaptation was very well done and i like how it relied on his presence as a ghost to keep her going as it meant he was still there for her even in death. Also six thirty was so cute in the series and i liked how they gave him a voice and a narrative like the book.

Would highly reccomend if you like 1950/60s era and a good feminist storyline.

Where the Crawdads sing from the novel by Delia Owens🌿🐦⛽πŸ›Ά

Visually, this is one of the best adaptions from what you imagine when you read the book compared what is bought to life on scene. The settings and locations are exactly how i imagined like Kya's house and Jumpin's fuel shop. Also all the scenes on the marsh are scenically beautiful and Daisy Edgar Jones brings Kya's relationship with the Marshes and nature to life beautifully. The soundtrack is also great featuring the amazing Taylor Swifts 'Carolina' which is eerily haunting and fits the vibe of the story perfectly. Also who doesn't love a great twist!

So there you go, film and tv adaptations that are ACTUALLY worth the time to watch. I've also started an Instagram in support of the blog @liltrature so if you are a regular reader of this blog try giving that a follow.πŸ’—
