How to select your holiday reads?๐Ÿ’ฎ๐ŸŒŠ๐ŸŒž๐Ÿ„

Hello Everyone,

I thought since holiday season was coming around, it would be a good opportunity to let you in on how I decide what books to pack and which ones to leave on the shelf. I always find it really hard to choose which books to take when my luggage usually has very limited space for clothes let alone books. But after travelling Greece last year, I believe I truly mastered the art of this particular decision. It's an important one as well as the average person only seems to pick up reading when lying on a lounger in the sun. Which is fair enough!๐ŸŒžโ›ฑ๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿฅฅ

So my first suggestion would be the most typical one, a holiday romance๐Ÿ’“. This speaks to me the most as I love a romance, so when you're abroad its fun to dip into a universe where you get swept of your feet by some Italian stranger, or go on a girls trip to forget about a boy who just broke your heart. So yes, its typical and basic, but it also completely fits the vibe and compliments a holiday quite nicely. I have a few authors i turn to when I'm looking for a book of this genre. Firstly, the Queen of the holiday romance, Emily Henry, who takes 2 people, causes issues and then sticks them on holiday together where they have to figure it all out, but its in the best way. I know it can become predictable if you read a few of hers, but personally i love knowing what to expect as i know its going to be good. I've read Happy Place and the classic You and Me on Vacation and enjoyed both. Beach Read is on my tbr and has been for ages, so that might be one i purchase and pack this summer. Another Author i would recommend would be Abby Jimenez as i love the way she writes romance. I saw Just for the summer all over my FYP and found it very enjoyable and have been meaning to read Part of your World also.

My second suggestion when trying to pick out a holiday read is to bring a book you've been meaning to read but haven't had the time to get around to actually picking it up๐Ÿ•. There is no chance i would've made it through A Little Life without lounging on a sun lounger. The only way to get through that was to feel positive in all other aspects of life. But honestly, a holiday is a good opportunity to get through a book you've been putting off. When else would you have enough time to be self indulgent like you can be on holiday. So whether it's The Bell Jar, or just a book that you haven't had the time for, pack it and get through it.

My third suggestion for a holiday read, especially when combined with the other two options is a short and snappy thriller๐Ÿ˜ฎ. These are usually quite thin, so you can pack as many as you would like. I never know whether its good to pack an extra large book that's going to take you a while or a load of small ones. I guess its probably a similar amount of words, anyway back to thrillers. I good short thriller is great on holiday, especially if you take a few between you and your friends or family, because then you can all trade and discuss the twists and turns. I would 100% recommend Freida Mcfadden for this choice as her thrillers draw you in and keep you guessing till the very end. On my trip last summer i read two of hers in under a week and it was great. Did creep me out a bit though!

My final suggestion is to take a series you've been looking forward to. This depends on how much space you even have in your luggage. But i think it's great to get sucked in to a singular universe while you are away as the connections between stories will definitely encourage you to read more. I'm currently reading and enjoying multiple series but the ones that stand out would be Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yaros and The Boys of Tommen series by Chloe Walsh. Fourth Wing is honestly incredible if you are a lover of dystopian fiction with spice and in depth universe exploration and characters. Its only downfall is that the series is not complete so once you are hooked you are gonna have to wait for books 4 and 5. The Boys of Tommen is honestly soul destroying but so good. I really enjoy the character dynamics and the way this universe connects. Its brilliant and would be great to get through whilst chilling and relaxing.

So please, dont avoid reading on holiday because you don't know which ones to pack. Follow this structure and you will have a great holiday of reading and relaxation. It is tried and tested so trust me on this one. Enjoy your summer and I will be back with another post soon!!!!!
